boot camper suzanne's blog update:

so our "DAILY" fitness blogger suzanne has decided to take a vacation from health so we will keep you posted as to when she decides to get back on the horse and continue her weight loss journey.....today was day 2 off suzanne not coming to camp lets see how tomorrow goes.

also if you are one of the 8 girls that have decided to not show up for a commitment that they each made to me and to themselves...(to show up every am at 6 and do their best!!) you need to re-evaluate yourself and see what keeps you in your life from reaching your goals and dreams! i can tell you right now why that is! commitment to yourself is zero! i am not interested in working with girls who have zero self worth...so either get some or quit! because i am cleaning house and my group doesnt have time for slackasses!! tomorrow is at inkwell i expect 100% attendance.

Time to get Serious about your Health!

"Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet." - Albert Einstein

All of us, especially athletes, should know about proper alkaline pH levels in the blood and tissues. The proper pH level in the human blood and tissues should be approximately 7.365 which is slightly alkaline. The balance is also critical to achieve top athletic performance. As our bodies use fuel and metabolize the electrons from the food for energy, we produce acid waste. Our bodies continually attempt to remove this acid waste and try to neutralize acid buildup in many ways. Our kidneys filter blood and excrete acid through urine, our lungs release carbon dioxide and we also sweat acids out of our skin. Our bodies, when healthy, also have built in alkaline reserves to buffer acid and help neutralize pH imbalances.

Summer 2010 Testimonial "Renee"

Where to begin? My boot camp experience started out as a surprise birthday gift from my son. Being over weight and a few health issues, I thought ‘your time has come girl’! Get ready!

Well Monday came and off I went. Yes it was difficult. I could barely keep up with everyone! But I was adamant that I was not going to embarrass my son and let him down. By the third week I actually ‘liked’ it! I’d started eating better and I was enjoying myself. I loved how every day was different and how quickly these once strangers became my new support system.

By the forth week Nisa wanted to know who would be returning for July….”Oh crap!” was all I could think.

Now it’s up to me!

Do I want to continue? Can I continue?

I didn’t like what I saw in the mirror before Nisa entered my life. I can’t tell you exactly why this one time size 6 couldn’t get it together. ENOUGH! I HAD to do this for Me!

So I signed up for July! I’d already lost 10 pounds and 4 ½ inches in 4 weeks ! What could another 4 weeks get me??? I was excited for sure! I found things could still be hard, but easier too and I began to feel a little more confident.

“Find your inner warrior” Nisa says……Oh I’m looking!

Once again the end of the month came and Nisa wanted to know who would be returning. With my inner warrior so close I just had to keep going!

It’s August now and while it can be a struggle putting myself first, I’m so grateful for my son’s gift and for Nisa’s ability to get this girl ‘up and running’ again! Literally running! I still have pounds & inches to loose and stumbling blocks for sure. I just know I like what I see so far.

With Nisa’s boot camp you will find empowerment, encouragement, laughter, new friends and a smaller, healthier you!

“So get off your Ass and find your Inner Warrior! You deserve it!!”

Warrior in training,

Renee

Compassionate Intensity

Balancing Your Warrior Spirit

When called to explore the way of the warrior, we can exhibit strength without sacrificing tenderness.

The human soul is dynamic, adapting readily to the changing conditions we encounter as time marches unerringly forward. Though we may use a single set of characteristics to define ourselves, we slip easily into contradictory roles when circumstances necessitate doing so. When we feel called to explore the way of the warrior, we may feel a strong sense of dismay because we have no wish to disavow ourselves of our softer side. Yet embracing the warrior spirit is not a matter of denying gentleness or compassion—all human beings embody all traits to some degree, and seemingly contradictory aspects can coexist peacefully within us. We can exhibit strength without sacrificing tenderness precisely because both are elements of the self and both have a role to play in the complexity of existence.

Balance is the key that unlocks the door of peaceable coexistence where opposing characteristics of the self are concerned. The warrior spirit, when allowed free reign, is overpowering and all-consuming. If it is to be an affirmative force in our lives, it must be tempered with wisdom and moderation. Our inner warriors are ready to react instantly to conflict, chaos, and confusion, while nonetheless remaining committed to a path of goodwill and fairness. They lie at the root of our dedication to integrity but do not drive us to use our strength to coerce others into adopting our values. The warrior may be nourished by raw emotions with the potential to cause us to lash out, but it channels that energy into positive and constructive action.

Your inner warrior is one source of strength you can draw upon in times of great need. When you employ your warrior spirit thoughtfully, it manifests itself as clarity, focus, determination, courage, constancy, and an unflappable zest for life. The warrior views roadblocks as evolutionary opportunities and is not afraid to pursue a purpose to its climax. There is more than enough room in the existence of the warrior for softness and benevolence, and the warrior's willingness to stand up for their beliefs can aid you greatly as you strive to incorporate these ideals into your existence. Exploring this unique side of yourself is a means of broadening your reality so you can internalize mindfulness while meeting life's challenges with an intensity of spirit that never wavers.

Outdoor Fitness camps are fun

Had it with the gym?Photobucket

Imagine a day when your workouts seem like playtime; when you look forward to your actual workout, not just to having your workout over with for the day. Imagine a day when fat loss is a non-issuebecause youve already lost it and its not going to come back. Imagine a day when you never worry about what size clothing to buy or whether your skinny jeans will fit.

Youve done every conceivable type of workout everything from cardio machines to fitness classes to personal training belonged to any number of gyms, own one too many unused pieces of home-gym equipment, not to mention tried countless diets, but you just cant find something that works that you actually enjoy because, lets face it, all that stuff is pretty monotonous and boring.

But it doesnt have to be that way!

7.19.10

Farmers Markets and Local Produce:

PhotobucketTime to go out and explore your community! With so many local farms growing fresh produce, a trip to your local farmers market is simply a must this time of year. You cant get fresher than a tomato that just got picked. Not only is it a fun way to try out new fruits and veggies, but you are supporting your local community and economy as well.

If you are new to a certain area ask the locals where the farmers market is located. Chances are they frequent the market quite often and can give you some advice on which vendor has the juiciest strawberries or the best zucchini. We reccomend: Whippoorwhill Farm

"Whippoorwill Farm has been producing quality vegetables for Island residents for over twenty years. We grow all our crops without synthetic fertilizers or chemicals. As our business has evolved over the years, we have supplied restaurants, super markets, farmers markets, a farm stand and our CSA members. Currently, our main focus is on serving our CSA members. We would love to have your support and input as a new member of our CSA program."

Or Try The West Tisbury's Farmers Market:

West Tisbury's Farmers Market

Take the kids! Making a special trip the farmers market can be exciting for the entire family! Who knew that there could be excitement about fruits and vegetables? Most vendors even have samples out for you to try their produce. Who doesnt love free samples? This is a great way for kids to try and eatOnce you visit your local farmers market it will be quite tempting to buy everything in sight. Before you go you should have a plan as to what you may need to create some fresh meals for that week. You dont want to buy too much produce and have it spoil. But, if you can have a list of meals for the week that are already planned out, you already know what and how much you need. No matter what meals you choose to make that week, you can never eat enough fresh salad, so go ahead and splurge if you find a nice selection of various lettuces.PhotobucketNot only will your intake of fruits and veggies increase when frequenting your local farmers market, you help the local farmers and help your community grow and prosper. Eat Healthy. Eat Fresh. Eat Local.

7.14.10

what is bootcamp?

The term boot camp has come to mean any intense exercise course where the body is given a full workout though originally it was a military term referring to the training of new recruits.

Not generally for the faint hearted, the idea of a boot camp is that you are pushed to test the limits of your strength and endurance. It's a way to get in shape through discipline and dedication.

Signing yourself up for a boot camp exercise programme can be an excellent way to kick start a whole new attitude to a healthier and fitter lifestyle. It's also an efficient way to burn up energy that is positive and healthy as opposed to destructive.

It's not just the young however that may feel they could do with focus and structure to get into better shape. For those who've found it hard to make the time or to organise a regular routine of exercise, an intensive course where the emphasis is on following the rules of a full fitness regime can be just the ticket.

It's not about turning yourself into a soldier but rather setting challenges that are intensely satisfying. With the emphasis on jumping jacks and push ups without rests in between, this is about building up the heart and lungs so that your endurance levels rise dramatically.

It's also a very efficient way to burn off calories quickly. Even if you've never been into the idea of military discipline, there is something about the intensity of this kind of exercise and the sense of achievement that comes from pushing your body that has made it increasingly popular

WELCOME TO BOOTIECAMP:

What did you think of your first day? The workout you did today is a great way to measure your progress while doing bootcamp. You can redo this same workout in a month and see how much faster and stronger you have become.Photobucket

Since you just started camp, here are a few housekeeping items to keep in mind

1) If you need to miss camp or have any questions, call my cell anytime before 9pm or after 5am to find out our daily location.....it changes! Here is my email address: nisafit@gmail.com for questions or concerns.

2) Take care of yourself this month. Pay attention to your body and really focus on what you need. You will be sore, So get a massage, drink a lot of water, eat well, get enough sleep, Hot bath with 1 cup epsom salt 1 cup baking soda does wonders, but keep exercising. If you pull a muscle, follow RICE (Rest, Ice, Compress & Elevate). It is important to learn the difference between having a sore body and an injured body.

3) New shoes are expensive. We recommend you get new shoes so that you are less likely to hurt yourself, but we dont want you to waste your money. So take care of your shoes and clean them on a regular basis.

4) We dont own the parks or beaches, so please be respectful of your surroundings. If you bring water, a towel, gloves, or anything else to the am location, make sure it leaves with you as well.

Now that we got all that out of the way, the most important thing is to have fun. Bootcamp is a great way to workout, but it is also a lot of fun. Normally after a week or two of bootcamp and people are hooked, we hope you feel the same way.

Vets, any advice for the new campers?

Have a Healthy Day, Love Nisa

Cardio Training in Heat and Humidity

Running and training in the warm weather requires caution and planning. Drink extra fluids. Dehydration can lead to serious heat illnesses that require medical attention.

In this Heat it might be time to think about some of the ways to exercise more safely in the heat and humidity. It is never too early to think about training safety. Even moderate exercise in hot conditions can result in dehydration and other heat related illnesses. Dehydration occurs when an athletes fluid loss results in a weight loss of 1-2% depending on body weight. A fluid loss of more than 3% can lead to some of the more severe heat related illnesses.

Signs of Dehydration

Thirst

Irritability

Headache

Dizziness

Nausea

Weakness

Most athletes can avoid dehydration by simply replacing the fluid they lose while exercising and avoiding the associated weight loss. In warm weather conditions, dehydration can affect performance in less than one hour. This means that even well conditioned athletes are at risk, since they are the ones that will be exercising for prolonged periods.

Steps to Avoid Dehydrating

The most crucial point to remember when exercising in warmer weather conditions is not to rely on thirst to monitor fluid intake. Drink at least 15-20 oz. of water about two hours before exercising. About 10 minutes before you start drink another 6-10 oz. If you are engaged in prolonged aerobic activity, it is a good idea to drink 6-10 oz. every 10-15 min. until finished..

Recognizing Heat Related Illnesses

If an athlete experiences signs of dehydration, it is a good idea to stop before the onset of heat illness. There are three types of heat illnesses. Each one is always preceded by dehydration.

Heat Cramps- Heat cramps are the least severe of the heat illnesses. They are causes by fluid and electrolyte loss. These cramps manifest themselves as sharp pains in the muscle that dont disappear with time. The athlete should cease activity and drink electrolyte and fluid replacement drinks, cool down with wet towels and get out of the sun.

Heat Exhaustion-Heat exhaustion manifests itself as a rise in body temperature, followed by nausea, vomiting, dizziness and a headache. Without hydration, heat exhaustion will progress and the athlete will experience lack of coordination, cramps, heavier sweating and "goose bumps" and tingling. Get out of the sun. Replace fluids and electrolytes, cool with wet towels and lie down with your legs elevated above your heart. Seek Medical Attention! Untreated heat exhaustion can result in heat stroke.

Heat Stroke- This is a life-threatening situation that requires immediate medical attention. Heatstroke can (and does) occur with or without the signs of heat exhaustion being apparent. Symptoms of heatstroke include tiredness, weakness, confusion, strange behavior, disorientation and unconsciousness. Heatstroke is a failure of the system that monitors the body's temperature. Sweating stops and the skin is warm and dry. Any combination of these symptoms can indicate heat stroke. Convulsions or seizures can occur. Coma and death are also possible. Heatstroke is a medical emergency. Get Immediate medical Attention! Get the runner out of the sun, remove all clothing, and immediately apply ice to their body or put the runner in cold water.

Stand Up Paddling, also known as SUP, is the perfect combination of surfing and traditional canoeing or kayaking. Using a canoe-like paddle and standing atop a larger version of a traditional longboard surfboard, paddlers push themselves through the water with perfectly choreographed side to side paddle strokes. Stand-up paddling offers a phenomenal core workout with a cadence much like swimming or cycling. The Sneakers I wear and workout in!

I Highly recommend MBT's I love them and have been wearing them for years!

These sneakers have recently been reported to sack cellulite in addition to toning muscles, improving posture, better your balance, & help varicose veins. Like an invisible personal trainer, they subtly strengthen & engage, increasing precious blood flow to 'problem areas' every moment you have them on.Photobucket
